Pregnancy and small airplanes don’t mix. I found that out the hard way on our connecting flight from Newark, New Jersey to Richmond, Virginia. I was in the back of the plane seated beside a stranger, and Dennis was in the seat behind me. The takeoff wasn’t too bad, it was the turbulence during the flight and the descent that really threw me for a loop. I put my hand over my mouth and had a plastic bag ready. Just remembering the experience makes me nauseous all over again. Good thing the guy beside me was nice and reassured me that I would be okay. I was indeed okay, but boy was I relieved when the plane finally touched down and I could get back on the ground.
Then Tita Paz picked us up from the airport, and we headed to a Chinese restaurant near their home in Petersburg. It must have been the recent airplane ride, plus the fact that I was extremely hungry, but by the end of the drive to the restaurant, I felt my stomach heaving and I again had my hand over my mouth. I was fine once I started eating, despite my concern that Chinese food would be too greasy for me.
After that we headed to Tita Paz’s home, where they made us sleep in the master bedroom! We protested, but they insisted. We finally got some rest so that we would have enough energy to tour Virginia the next day.
