The following entry is from my old blog. I wrote this as part of my about me page, and most of it is still true today. It may need a little updating, though.
I saw this on a site somewhere, and I thought it was a fun way to write about myself. Basically, you pick a word beginning with each letter of the alphabet to describe you. Let’s start…
*singing* “A, I’m adorable, B, I’m so beautiful, C, I’m so cute and full of chaaarmmm…”
What’s the matter? You don’t think that song describes me? Okay, okay, I’ll think of my own words for each letter.
A is for active and adventurous. I like to keep active whenever I have the opportunity. I’ve been involved in sports such as softball, platform diving, and badminton. I’ve tried ballet, yoga, and pilates. I also enjoy billiards, wall climbing, paintball, and white-water rafting, and am willing to try bungee jumping and sky diving. Bring it on, world!
B is for bookworm. I’m a voracious reader, and my room has shelf upon shelf filled with books. I read a wide variety of genres, from fantasy to general fiction to children’s literature, to nonfiction books including spiritual and self-help books, cookbooks, do-it-yourself books, reference books in my fields of interest, and even an occasional science book now and then. I’d enumerate a list of my favorite authors, but that would take too long.
C is for cats. I’ve never had one as a pet, but I must say they fascinate me. I love the way they move, so poised and graceful. And kitties are just too adorable for words.
D is for dreamer. I’m a dreamer, as well as all the other things that go along with it: idealist, optimist. I’m not a bubbles and sunshine rah-rah girl that pretends to be happy even when she’s not, but I’ve been blessed with an inner sense of knowing that things will turn out for the best in the end, and I have the ability to bounce back from being cynical, bitter, or jaded.
E is for exploring. I like to explore new things, whether it be new places, new ideas, new cultures, new concepts, and even explore new depths of my inner self and consciousness.
F is for family and friends. I love them to bits and I am fiercely protective of them.
G is for geeky. I love the wonders of technology, and I enjoy using all the latest gadgets: my laptop, cellphone, camera, mp3player, and PDA. I can spend hours and hours in front of the computer, and I’m the one my family turns to for help when something needs fixing or tinkering.
H is for hopeless romantic, which I admit I am. I’m practical though, I don’t believe in love at first sight, and I’ve learned that love is not a fairy tale, but I’ll always be a romantic at heart.
I is for INFP, according to the Myers-Briggs method of classifying personality.
I | N | F | P
Introverted | Intuitive | Feeling | Perceiving
56 | 33 | 56 | 22 Strength of the preferences %Idealist Portrait of the Healer (INFP)
Healers | Counselors | Champions | TeachersHealers present a calm and serene face to the world, and can seem shy, even distant around others. But inside they’re anything but serene, having a capacity for personal caring rarely found in the other types. Healers care deeply about the inner life of a few special persons, or about a favorite cause in the world at large. And their great passion is to heal the conflicts that trouble individuals, or that divide groups, and thus to bring wholeness, or health, to themselves, their loved ones, and their community.
Healers have a profound sense of idealism that comes from a strong personal sense of right and wrong. They conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place, full of wondrous possibilities and potential goods. In fact, to understand Healers, we must understand that their deep commitment to the positive and the good is almost boundless and selfless, inspiring them to make extraordinary sacrifices for someone or something they believe in. Set off from the rest of humanity by their privacy and scarcity (around one percent of the population), Healers can feel even more isolated in the purity of their idealism.
Also, Healers might well feel a sense of separation because of their often misunderstood childhood. Healers live a fantasy-filled childhood-they are the prince or princess of fairy tales — an attitude which, sadly, is frowned upon, or even punished, by many parents. With parents who want them to get their head out of the clouds, Healers begin to believe they are bad to be so fanciful, so dreamy, and can come to see themselves as ugly ducklings. In truth, they are quite OK just as they are, only different from most others — swans reared in a family of ducks.
At work, Healers are adaptable, welcome new ideas and new information, are patient with complicated situations, but impatient with routine details. Healers are keenly aware of people and their feelings, and relate well with most others. Because of their deep-seated reserve, however, they can work quite happily alone. When making decisions, Healers follow their heart not their head, which means they can make errors of fact, but seldom of feeling. They have a natural interest in scholarly activities and demonstrate, like the other Idealists, a remarkable facility with language. They have a gift for interpreting stories, as well as for creating them, and thus often write in lyric, poetic fashion. Frequently they hear a call to go forth into the world and help others, a call they seem ready to answer, even if they must sacrifice their own comfort.
I believe the INFP personality describes me well, although a few years ago I scored more as an ENFP. Has my personality changed from extroverted to introverted? Maybe so.
J is for jack-of-all-trades. I’m one of those people who thinks almost everything is interesting. I remember back in highschool I had a hard time deciding what course to take in college, since so many fields appealed to me. Even now, I have a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Good thing I’m multi-talented to go along with it.
K is for kulit. I was originally thinking of either kikay or kalog for this letter, but I figured kulit described me better.
Am still looking for a satisfactory English definition of this word though, I don’t think there is one.
L is for leftist leanings, which I have probably as a carryover from my UP education. I’m not the rallying type though, unless it’s something I really, really believe in. I am proud to say that I was at EDSA 2, though.
M is for malambing. Another Tagalog word, roughly translated as affectionate. I tend to be malambing with people I am close to, particularly with my family and close friends, and with my (non-existent as of now) S.O.
N is for night owl. I’m a nocturnal creature, I tend to be more alive and alert after the sun goes down. One of the hardest things in the world for me is getting up each morning, but I’m at my best when the hour is late. Maybe I was a vampire in a former lifetime.
O is for occupational therapist, which is what I am. If you’re not quite sure what an OT is, then here’s a pretty good short introductory FAQ on it. If you need to know more, then ask Google.
P is for proud to be Pinoy! No matter where in the world I may be, my homeland will always be the Philippines. My country isn’t perfect, but I love it dearly anyway.
Q is for quirky. I have my own little quirks and eccentricities, they’re just part of being me.
R is for rambunctious, rowdy, and rude. Or reflective, resilient, responsible. I can fluctuate between any of the two extremes, depending on the situation. In reality though, I can’t really think of a good R word to describe me, so I listed the first few that came to mind.
S is for Sensational Sagittarius! I don’t believe in horoscopes per se but the Sagittarian personality describes me nicely.
T is for traveler! I love to travel. I’ve been lucky enough to visit several countries, and I love the adventure that travel brings. New places, new sights, new people. And a constant opportunity for picture-taking.
U is for the University of the Philippines, which is where I got my education. I’m a proud iskolar ng bayan, and my UP education taught me a lot of things, and not just the kind of learning you get in the classroom.
V is for vegetarian. Although to be specific, I’m a pesco-lacto-ovo-vegetarian, meaning I eat fish/seafood, dairy, and eggs. Some people might not consider that a “true vegetarian”, but hey, it works for me. Besides, I heart seafood and wouldn’t want to give it up. I turned veggie in September 2002, despite my friends thinking I was insane.
W is for writer wannabe. I enjoy putting words down on paper or on the screen, and stringing them together to create sentences, thoughts, and ideas. That probably explains why I spend so much time on my blog.
X is xtra-ordinary. I have xtremely xciting xuper powers. The only problem is, you weren’t supposed to know about my special powers, and therefore I must kill you.
Y is for yay! This alphabet is almost over.
Z is for zzz… which is probably what your reaction is if you’ve read this far. Either that, or you think I’m zany, which is still a z word, so it counts.
